Routeburn:: Great Walk

The Routeburn-Greenstone Tramp.

The Routeburn is considered one of the Great Walks of New Zealand. It is located in the Fiordland & Mount Aspiring National Parks.
We combined this with the Greenstone Track for a five day, 45 mile hike.
We had awesome weather which made for amazing views...

starting out.. freshly stretched & showered

first swing bridge

the water of these mountain streams was the most amazing turquoise color- beautiful!

Sugarloaf Stream

bridge #2

more amazing water shots on day 1

Great views from the Routeburn Flats

Routeburn Falls, near our hut on night 1

The falls would be great for swimming (but it was a little too cold...)

Lake Harris (day two)

more views of Lake Harris form the Harris Saddle... heading up to our highest point

Views from Conical Hill (a crazy side trip that added a steeeeep climb to our day)

you can see the sea from up here

views of Harris Lake half way up Conical Hill

Lake Mackenzie (where we will stay our second night)

a nice little elfin forest

Lake Howden and the valley we will be in for the next 2.5 days....

a very rickety 1-man swing bridge

the 4th day of the hike was through a fairy tale like forest filled with beech trees and mossy paths

me after 5 days of no showering....
